CDC Director, Chris Thurston

Chris is excited to bring the traditional summer camp experience to Maine kids! Graduating from the University of Maine in 2011, and eager to make a difference, he moved to Massachusetts and joined AmeriCorps City Year working with young people at the Dearborn Middle School in Roxbury, which lead to a teaching position at The Community Academy of Science & Health in Dorchester. Prior to joining CDC, Chris served as Director of the Boys & Girls Club of Wakefield, MA.

For eight summers Chris attended and worked at Camp Manitou, a residential camp in Oakland, Maine. He served as part of the leadership team and worked directly with campers and counselors from around the world. As the Camp Director at The Boys and Girls Club of Wakefield, he increased enrollment each summer, improved programming, developed community partnerships, and supported families through the campership initiative.

Chris is impressed by the history and community commitment of Center Day Camp, and is thrilled to be part of the team. He is excited about being actively involved with JCC Camping, The American Camp Association (ACA), Maine Summer Camps, and other camping organizations, as well as increasing programming opportunities and camp engagement activities in the offseason. Chris began his tenure at Center Day Camp in late November 2019, and he looks forward to continuing to work with alumni, campers,  and staff!

75th Reunion

CDC will celebrate its 75th reunion in 2024! Let's continue to make memories while we look forward to coming together once again.

All of my best friends are at CDC. It's just a great environment for me to learn and grow. My counselors have taught me so many lessons and I look up to them as role models.

Charley - Camper

Center Day Camp is the most incredible and magical community, which I feel so blessed to be a part of. I met all my best friends at camp, and I have learned and grown so much from my experience here.

Megan - Staff

Center Day Camp is SO fun. We have athletics, swimming, boating and a bunch of other cool activities. The counselors here are really nice and care about everybody.
